Institute of National Memory Brno is a place where history comes alive through authentic stories of witnesses to key events in Czechoslovak and Czech 20th-century history.  Our mission is to preserve the testimonies of those who experienced totalitarian regimes and pass them on to future generations so they are never forgotten.  We focus primarily on collecting and archiving personal memories and historical materials that reveal how totalitarian regimes affected the lives of ordinary people. These stories are an essential source for understanding.

What do we do?

Silent Heroism Exhibition 

In May 2023, we opened the interactive exhibition Silent Heroism. The narrators and main characters of the exhibition are ordinary people who lived through World War II and communist totalitarianism and chose to perform heroic acts in difficult times.

Accompanying Exhibitions and Cultural Events 

Through thematic exhibitions, films, theater performances, concerts, and other cultural events, we bring the stories of people who stood up against oppression closer to the public.  

Oral History 

We collect testimonies from witnesses who experienced key moments of our past and create an extensive archive of authentic stories.  

Educational Programs 

We organize workshops, lectures, and interactive events for schools and the public, conveying not only facts but also personal experiences of witnesses.  

Digitization and Archiving 

Our goal is to preserve memories and documents for future generations in digital form and make them accessible to both experts and the general public.
